Easter in Sorrento

Also in the following year Sorrento is getting ready to live the Holy Easter: numerous are the local shows and the initiatives not to be missed. Among these ones, worthy to be mentioned are the processions of Holy Thursday and Friday which pass across the streets of the old town centre of Sorrento and of the other towns of the Sorrento Coast, such as Massa Lubrense, Piano di Sorrento, Meta and Sant’ Agnello.

The mystical and suggestive atmosphere which is found in Sorrento during the Holy Week draws every year numerous visitors to the enchanting town on the Gulf of Naples. Besides the beauty of the place and the peculiarity of the religious rites and of the local folklore, there is a mild climate: an exceptional combination for excursions to the surroundings of Sorrento and to the neighbouring tourist centres such as Naples, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Capri and the Amalfi Coast.

Particularly felt, Easter represents also an important moment for local gastronomy: it is in this time of the year that the Sorrento Coast and Campania in general offer tourists the tastiest dishes of the old Neapolitan gastronomical tradition. Interesting are the wine-gastronomical itineraries which include Easter menus and typical dihes, such as the sweet and the salty casatiello and the well-known Neapolitan Pastiera.
