SEPTEMBER IN THE COAST WITH THE MUSICAL MEETINGS IN SORRENTO
Nicola Piovani will inaugurate the 36th edition on September 8th

Author’s notes, from September 8th to 25th , with the Sorrento Musical Meetings, come to the 36th edition.
The festival will be inaugurated by Nicola Piovani, a musician famous all over the world, Oscar for the soundtrack of “La vita è bella” by Roberto Benigni who will propose his well-known repertoire of film pieces of music.
Organized by the “Federalberghi Penisola Sorrentina” in cooperation with the Local Tourist Office of Sorrento and Sant’ Agnello, the show occurs under the sponsorship of the Assessorship for Tourism of the Region Campania, by the Provincial Tourist Board of Naples and of the towns of Sorrento and Sant’ Agnello, and with the contribution of the “Fondazione Sorrento” and of numerous sponsors.
“The Federalbergni has enthusiastically accepted the opportunity of being able to organize the edition 2008 of the Meetings – says Costanzo Iaccarino, president of the hotelkeepers of the Sorrento Coast. The initiative forms part of projects started up in cooperation with the Provincial Tourist Board, and recently made concrete with the opening of an information bureau. We are convinced that music, and in particular the classical one, can be an important vehicle of promotion for the territory”.
The kermis, which has the art direction of Antonio Maione, will alternate the traditional location of the 14th-century Cloister of San Francesco of Sorrento with two dates in the old town centre of the neighbouring Sant’ Agnello.
“But the novelty of the 36th edition is in the formula- as Maione underlines-. We have, in fact, provided, together with evenings dedicated to classical music with the presence of great names of the international scene, like Leslie Howard, also for moments in which recitation mixes with art music, like on the date of the 22nd with such an exceptional reciting voice as Catherine Spaak’s”.
“Making the stay in the Sorrento Coast more and more pleasant and richer and richer is the purpose that, beginning from tour operators, we propose ourselves again every year – as the manager of the Provincial Tourist Board of Naples, Dario Scalabrini, states-. Such initiatives as the Sorrento Musical Meetings are a demonstration that the attention to the guest and the multiplication of the occasions of stay in these wonderful resorts are the way to follow to reach a high quality offer”.
Guests of the show are also the “Le Muse” Orchestra, a women’s ensemble in programme on the 10th, the tangos by Piazzolla interpreted by Adria Mortari’s voice and by Francesco D’Errico’s piano (on the 14th ), the Funny Sax Quartet (on the 15th ), Francesco Nicolosi (on the 16th), Michele di Martino’s mandolin, on the stage of “his” Sant’ Aqnello on the 18th ,and the sacred songs of the CamPet Singers (on the 23rd).
